Sean Oliu is a prolific young singer, songwriter and musician from Southern California. Sean has been intertwining country with the influences of Blues, and early Rock n’ Roll to form his own unique musical style.
Sean opened for Rachel Patten at the “VH1 Save The Music Holiday Concert” and was selected to record and perform the title tracks “Remember Me” and “Un Poco Loco” (from the movie “Coco”) with Anthony Gonzalez. He was thrilled to open for Leanne Rimes in her “You and Me Christmas Tour”.

From rising Telemundo singer to president of his high school choral program, from Mouseketeer to country crooning opener for LeAnn Rimes, Sean Oliu’s singing career has been as varied as it has been successful.
Not bad for a kid just out of high school.
Oliu, a recent graduate of Servite High, writes that he grew up with his father blasting Bruce Springsteen on road trips and his mother humming Jackson Browne around the house. But it was his grandpa’s collection of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Hank Williams music, which the two of them would listen to and sing while fixing old cars, that grabbed his heart.
“Growing up, I thought ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s country records were what every kid was listening to,” wrote the Anaheim native.
That immersion comes through in his vocal stylings, according to judges who praised his mature, rich and authentic sound.
It also helped Oliu earn recognition as the 2020 vocal music Artist of the Year.
Judge Patrick Goeser of the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music at Chapman University, summed up many judges’ reactions remarking on Oliu’s “sincere, easy, musically expressive delivery of the words” and “real honesty in (his) performance that is very moving and inspiring.”
Judge Vanessa Montgomery of Loara High added, “I am not a country music fan, but Sean’s voice is glorious.”
As a submission piece, Oliu used his rendition of the Vince Gill song “Go Rest High on the Mountain,” which he said , “combined elements of what I grew up with and what I’m pursuing today.”
He also liked its message of faith saying, “I grew up in church.”
Oliu’s career has been in an impressive upward arc ever since, as an 11-year-old, he emerged from 6,500 entrants to reach the finals of “La Voz Kids,” Telemundo’s Spanish-language version of “The Voice.” Oliu’s parents signed him up for mariachi as a way to get him to learn Spanish.
While tearing up the rockabilly circuit with the Colony Boys in 2017, Oliu earned a spot on “Club Mickey Mouse,” Disney’s reboot of the “Mickey Mouse Club” on Facebook TV.
Just like that, Oliu went from Colony Boy to “Mouseketeer Sean.”
And in 2018, Oliu got the chance to be Rimes’ opening act for her Christmas Tour stop at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. He is also wrapping up his first album of original music with Nashville writers and musicians.
When not singing, Oliu carved up the ice as captain of the Servite hockey team.I

Sean Oliu, La Voz Kids Audition, NBC Telemundo

A winner was all set to be crowned last night on NBC Telemundo's La Voz Kids three-hour grand finale. After thirteen weeks, the singing competition–styled after hit Fox competition show “The Voice”–selected six young aspiring singers, including Anaheim's own Sean Oliu. The stakes were high as the top prize included a recording contract with Universal Music. Oliu, a dual-immersion kid from Price Elementary who recently completed the 5th grade, gave the final episode of the show's first season his best belting out Luis Fonsi's “No Me Doy Por Vencido.” Would it seal the deal?
For those who haven't been watching, La Voz Kids resemblance to The Voice is unmistakable, right down to the red-padded cushion seats of celebrity mentors. Oliu made it through blind auditions and was selected on Prince Royce's “team.” Every Sunday night, week after week, his parents and abuelitos beamed with pride as the youngster's performances gained the adulation of the audience and voters propelling him to the grand finale. Last night's show was a star-studded affair, too, with guest performances from Royce, Ana Barbara and Ricky Martin.
Before Telemundo, I first took notice of Oliu's voice two years ago when he performed onstage at Pearson Park in Anaheim for the Viva Los Muertos! Day of the Dead Mariachi Celebration. Backed by Mariachi Puño de Oro and Rhythmo Mariachi Kids, he sang “Besame Morenita” to the crowd that night. My mother and I both turned to each other in our seats remarking on his talent.
It came as no surprise, then, to see him on television this summer nailing a rendition of Marco Antionio Solis' “Si No Te Hubieras Ido.”
After his final performance on La Voz Kids, the celebrity mentors offered praises in unison. Pop superstar Paulina Rubio mentioned how he reminded her of her son, touted his singing, complimented him on his gentlemanly ways, and even gave props to his gap front-teeth! Later in the program, though, the moment of truth arrived. Would he or Paola Guanche go on to represent Team Royce?
Anxious Anaheimers watched on as anticipation built. Paola's name was announced as she would later be declared the winner of the first season. Oliu gave a hug to his fellow contestant and held back tears after being eliminated. In the interview that preceded his performance, the young singer graciously stated that “we are all winners.” Nothing could be more true.
Sean: No llores! You've made your city proud and have one bright future ahead of you!
